Formatting Adventure Log Posts

Here are a couple of helpful items I’ve found for formatting posts in the log. I’m enough of a formatting geek that I tend to use a lot of these (truth be told, I’ve edited this post a dozen times already trying to get it to look right).

  • *Bold text* – surround a word or phrase with * to make it bold.
  • _Italic text_ – surround a word or phrase with _ to make it italic.
  • Lists – start a series of lines with * to make a bullet list. Use # to make a numbered list.
  • <!--more--> on a line by itself will “break” your post into two parts. It will automatically add a “click here to continue reading” link. Since we tend to have a lot of long log entries, I plan on using this a lot.
  • h1. to h6. – Start a line with one of these to create heading lines of various sizes. 1 is the biggest and boldest, 6 is almost the same as regular text. For example, I start most of Father Brooks journals off with the date on a h3. heading line.
  • bq. – Block-quotes are whole paragraphs that are indented and in a different font. I usually use this for an “aside” within the journal.

There is a lot more you can do – the full reference can be found here.
